Arran Boat Reviews

Why buy an Arran 16
This boat was designed to go to sea, but the Arran 16s strength and stability has made it ideal for use elsewhere. It has been a trusted favourite with hire boat companies for many years due to its heavy build quality and stability.

Inshore fishermen who make their daily living from the sea have been using them since the 70s. They find the stability, open deck space and economical daily running costs of the Arran hard to beat.

Over the past four years I have sold an increasing number of boats to fisherman who troll the large lakes and lochs for big Pike, Perch, Char and the elusive giant Ferrox trout. This is because of the unusually large and deep bilge and centre keel on the Arran 16. This makes it the ideal trolling boat. They enable the boat to go in a straight line at very slow trolling speeds even when the wind is trying to blow you off course. The boats category “C” class also makes it very safe to use on these huge potentially dangerous rough waters.

Safety
The boat has been in production for over twenty five years with the outer hull shape changing little in that time. It has a well proven history and excellent safety record. The category C rating the boat currently holds is explained below.

The craft directive divides boats into four main categories "A", "B", "C" and "D" using significant wave height as the key element to distinguish between them. It gives a general description of the areas where such wave height is common. The term significant wave height means the average height of the highest 1/3 of the waves over a given period. In these conditions waves of over double that height may occasionally be experienced. It is the crest to trough height that is normally used in weather reports.
